Why Is So Much Capital Flowing into Embodied AI?

Why Is So Much Capital Flowing into Embodied AI?

I recently spoke with an investor who shared an interesting perspective. He quoted a well-known mantra from the venture capital world: “Question the hype, understand the hype, embrace the hype, enjoy the hype.” Looking at the current boom in Embodied AI, he added two more crucial stages: “Digest the hype and survive the bubble.”

In the first half of 2026, publicly disclosed funding in China’s Embodied AI sector already exceeded RMB 90 billion (approximately EUR 11.5 billion). XPeng Robotics also set a new record for a single funding round.

Where is all this capital coming from? And why are investors willing to invest billions in selected robotics startups repeatedly within just a few months?

Looking at the leading companies, an interesting pattern emerges: many core teams originally come from the autonomous driving sector. Why are these experienced teams now in such high demand in Embodied AI?

The investor put it clearly: Embodied AI is never purely a software business. Founding teams need a deep understanding of AI models, hardware, complex supply chains, and real-world customer operating conditions.

At the same time, these teams must continuously raise capital and manage their burn rate. Teams from autonomous driving have often already been through the full development journey themselves — from early-stage R&D to production readiness and scaling.

Another important point from our discussion was this: Good research does not automatically translate into successful entrepreneurship.

Research focuses on pushing technological boundaries. A company, however, must solve concrete user problems and turn technology into a product that customers are actually willing to pay for.

In your view, what is the most important core capability for a CEO at this early stage of Embodied AI? We look forward to the discussion.
